Recording - Paper Song

This song was another experimental piece with Jesse and I where we came together to make a song not exactly knowing what we wanted to make. I remember being obsessed at the time with playing in the key of C Minor, so I decided to start this song in that key for the verses. Then I switched the song to its relative major (Eb Major) for the choruses to give them a much more bright/hopeful sound. I used Jesse's keyboard alot while recording this song. I used it for both of the piano pieces, and for the strings/warm pad/something-or-other piece. Jesse worked with me to set the mood and to pick out which chords/keys went along with that mood.

Sometime after the initial recording sessions, Jesse laid down the guitar piece which comes in after the second verse starts. He sent me this version of the song, and I remember being struck by the simplicity/beauty of the song. He and Jessica Weaver later added vocals, and the song showed up as the "Paper Song" on the Burt McGee album "While I Grow." I've always imagined the melody to be something different, and so I've thought about going back and changing it to something else. Maybe someday...
