Who I'm Voting For in 2012
Come 2012, I'm going to vote for the candidate who says things like:

"America's trust is in the merciful providence of God, in whose image every man is created ... the source of every man's dignity and freedom."

"In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with people's money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative."

"We are proud of and shall continue our far-reaching and sound advances in matters of basic human needs?expansion of social security?broadened coverage in unemployment insurance ?improved housing?and better health protection for all our people. We are determined that our government remain warmly responsive to the urgent social and economic problems of our people."

"We shall continue vigorously to support the United Nations."

"Government must have a heart as well as a head."

A candidate who thinks that to improve labor, we must:

"Stimulate improved job safety of our workers, through assistance to the States, employees and employers;"

"Continue and further perfect its programs of assistance to the millions of workers with special employment problems, such as older workers, handicapped workers, members of minority groups, and migratory workers;"

"Strengthen and improve the Federal-State Employment Service and improve the effectiveness of the unemployment insurance system;"

"Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex;"

"Provide assistance to improve the economic conditions of areas faced with persistent and substantial unemployment;"

"Revise and improve the Taft-Hartley Act so as to protect more effectively the rights of labor unions, management, the individual worker, and the public. The protection of the right of workers to organize into unions and to bargain collectively is the firm and permanent policy of [this] Administration."

"[We have] enlarged Federal assistance for construction of hospitals, emphasizing low-cost care of chronic diseases and the special problems of older persons, and increased Federal aid for medical care of the needy."

A candidate who, with respect to businesses, wishes to implement:

"Legislation to enable closer Federal scrutiny of mergers which have a significant or potential monopolistic connotations;"

"Procedural changes in the antitrust laws to facilitate their enforcement;"

"A candidate who has this to say about immigration:"

"[This] Party supports an immigration policy which is in keeping with the traditions of America in providing a haven for oppressed peoples, and which is based on equality of treatment, freedom from implications of discrimination between racial, nationality and religious groups, and flexible enough to conform to changing needs and conditions."

A candidate who has this to say on the environment:

"We favor a comprehensive study of the effect upon wildlife of the drainage of our wetlands."

"We subscribe to the general objectives of groups seeking to guard the beauty of our land and to promote clean, attractive surroundings throughout America."

"We commend [this] Administration for its administration of our public lands and for elimination of bureaucratic abuses. We recommend continuing study and evaluation of the advisability of returning unused or inadequately used public lands."

And finally, a candidate who wishes continue the "study of additional ways to correct inequities in the effect of various taxes." Someone who's spending was up to 21% of the GDP in one year alone and who would propose tax tables on unmarried individuals that look like:

Tax RateIncome (adjusted for inflation)
47%$262,500 ? 300,000
50%$300,000 ? 337,500
53%$337,500 ? 375,000
56%$375,000 ? 412,500
59%$412,500 ? 487,500
62%$487,500 ? 600,000
65%$600,000 ? 712,500
69%$712,500 ? 825,000
72%$825,000 ? 937,500
75%$937,500 ? 1,125,000
78%$1,125,000 ? 1,312,500
81%$1,312,500 ? 1,500,000
84%$1,500,000 ? $1,687,500
87%$1,687,500 ? $1,875,000
89%$1,875,000 ? $2,812,500
90%$2,812,500 ? $3,750,000
91%$3,750,000 or more

That's right, folks, my vote this year will be for the Republican candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower. Because, let's face it; based on the aforementioned policy points denoted in the 1956 Republican platform, I really like Ike!

Wait a minute...I've just been informed that, unfortunately, he died 42 years ago...well then, how about someone more socially comparable, yet more fiscally conservative?

Sure that'll do, but let's not get toooo conservative...
